The Conservative Group for Europe is campaigning to stop a No Deal Brexit. We are working with MPs, Peers and other stakeholder to prevent the UK crashing out of the EU without a deal.

We believe:

  1. A No Deal Brexit is undemocratic.

  2. A No Deal Brexit will destroy jobs and threaten our economy.

  3. A No Deal Brexit threatens our security and our relations with our neighbours and friends.

  4. A No Deal Brexit threatens the Union.

  5. A No Deal Brexit will damage the Conservative Party’s reputation for competence and alienate moderate voters.

  6. A No Deal Brexit is unpatriotic and will exacerbate national divisions.

The Prime Minister’s assessment that the UK will crash out of the EU without a deal has gone from odds of ‘a million-to one’ to ‘touch-and-go’.

Boris Johnson recently announced his intention to prorogue Parliament. This is a deliberate attempt to exclude MPs from the Brexit process and force through an undemocratic No Deal outcome.

Many Conservative Group for Europe MPs - including our President, the Rt Hon Ken Clarke MP, Vice President, Antoinette Sandbach MP, Chair, the Rt Hon Dominic Grieve QC MP and Vice Chairs, the Rt Hon Alistair Burt MP and Richard Harrington MP - lost the Whip recently because they put their country and constituents before Party by voting to stop a No Deal Brexit. This means they are no longer Conservative MPs but Independent MPs.

They remain members of the CGE, retain their leadership positions and have the full support of the Group.

The forthcoming days - and weeks - will be critical in shaping the future of the UK for a generation.

No Deal Brexit very bad news – not least for Science, by Ian Taylor

Advocates of Leave in the 2016 Referendum never implied such an outcome would seriously disrupt lives, cost jobs or diminish living standards. But that is what is now facing the citizens of this country, especially if we leave with No Deal.  This would have disastrous consequences for businesses,
